It’s been a rollercoaster of a year, how has the pandemic affected your recording studio business?

It’s been a very interesting time for the music industry. Live shows took a major hit globally which meant a huge drop in income for artists themselves, musicians, management, labels and so much more. On the flip side, a lot more creation of music has been taking place since we were all locked down at one point. I have seen a surge in enquiries for mixing work as more and more artists work from home.

What is your outlook on the music business now?

The music business is one of those indestructible businesses, simply because in my opinion, music isn’t an option in life, but a necessity. The human race will always find ways to express pain, sorrow, joy and happiness through storytelling and melody, so therefore we will endure to keep those avenues of self expression alive by any means necessary.

You recently moved your recording studio location from South London to East London, was there a particular reason for this?

I built my business with branding in mind when I launched it back in 2008. I wanted my company to have strong values in quality control and customer service. We finally reached that point and felt that the building we were in couldn’t accommodate for our stage of growth. That’s when we found the Mainyard Studios Complex. One of the main appeals for me was the community aspect and caring management.

What are your plans for 2021?

The plan is to expand the business on the digital side in terms of marketing services, beat selling and merchandising. The new landscape of the media and entertainment industry requires us to become content creators who are constantly delivering value to their clients.
